Themes of The Pearl
The Pearl has lots of themes, but a few are greed and wealth, family, and poor vs rich.
Greed and Wealth:
This story shows a lot of greediness and thirst for wealth. Everybody wants the pearl because it is valuable. They don’t care about anyone else but themselves and getting rich and wanting to be at a higher ranking than others.

Family:
In the story, family is very important to Kino. He tries to protect them from harm as much as possible in a unique way, animal-like. He protects them more than he protects himself. Kino and Juana also try their very best to take care of the most special thing in their world, Coyotito. Some evidence is that the reason Kino found the pearl in the first place was to pay for Coyotito’s medical treatment.

Poor vs Rich:
The rich think of the poor people as animals, and treat them like animals. They have no right to live a happy life, which show how greedy the rich are. To the rich, it doesn’t matter who you are and whether you are nice or not, but it mattered if you were the same race and rich, which is very unfair to the poor.

In my opinion, these are all good themes, but the most important one of all is poor vs rich and good vs evil, which explains greed and wealth. It is very unfair that the rich treat the poor with disrespect. It doesn’t matter if you are rich, or what race you are, but what is inside of you and that the poor should have an opportunity to live the life that they want to live. Also, greediness is bad and can ruin others lives. People would sacrifice even their beloved families just for wealth.
